Photoville goes beyond the boundaries of our shipping containers with incredible installations and interactive happenings, to encourage visitors to interact with photography in new and unexpected ways. This year we invited respected photo professionals to nominate a group of emerging photographers to present their work on our repurposed shipping pallets – aptly titled: Emergi-Cubes, which will be dispersed throughout our village!
The new pavilion tent will host over 15 panels and workshops featuring the most innovative work and pressing issues in photography today. Highlights include a 10-year retrospective by MediaStorm, an InstaReview with some of the most popular Instagram photographers working today, a RISC battlefield medical response workshop for journalists working in dangerous and remote areas as well as several discussions around how photographers can be agents of change through their documentation of topics such as the environment, child marriage and LGBT and migrant communities worldwide.
Each evening the Smorgasburg Beer Garden plays host to powerful multimedia presentations. Illuminated by the backdrop of the Manhattan skyline, the Photoville beer garden is the perfect setting to view multi-media projections while relaxing, having a drink and savoring tantalizing treats from local food vendors.
From the New York Times Scavenger Hunt to daylight book signings in the Smorgasburg Beer Garden, to Aperture taking over for a day – we will have events happening throughout PHOTOVILLE and will be announcing more in the coming weeks!
